May is arguably the finest month on the Amalfi Coast — warm, sunny, and green, at around 22°C/14°C with low rainfall (55mm) and long days. Everything is open and the weather is reliably beautiful, but the worst of the summer crowds and prices haven't fully arrived, making it a top shoulder-season choice. The gardens of Ravello (Villa Rufolo, Villa Cimbrone) are at their lush best, the lemon groves are heavy with fruit, and the light is gorgeous for photography. It's the ideal month for the Path of the Gods and for ferry-hopping to Positano and Capri — warm enough to enjoy being outside all day, cool enough to walk comfortably. The sea is warming and the hardy start swimming by late May, though many still find it bracing. The trade-off is that May is increasingly busy and pricey as the season builds, so book hotels and popular restaurants ahead. Pack light, sunny-weather clothes plus a layer for evenings, and make the most of the long days.

June kicks off the beach season — warm, dry, and sunny at around 26°C/18°C, with little rain (35mm) and the sea finally swimmable. The early part of the month is a great time: the weather is hot and reliable, the sea is warm, ferries run at full frequency, and the crush of July-August hasn't fully arrived. Spiaggia Grande in Amalfi and the beaches of Positano come alive, and village-hopping by ferry is at its best. A highlight is the Feast of Sant'Andrea on June 27, honoring Amalfi's patron saint, when bearers dramatically run the silver statue up the cathedral staircase amid crowds and celebration — a vivid local spectacle. The downside is that prices and crowds are firmly in high-season territory, and the midday sun is strong (UV 8) — plan beach time and hikes for morning or late afternoon. Book accommodation and ferries ahead, pack swimwear and serious sun protection, and enjoy the long days before the peak-summer intensity.

September is one of the best months to visit — still warm at around 27°C/19°C, the sea still warm for swimming, but with the August crowds and prices easing as the month goes on. Early September can feel like a calmer extension of summer: hot days, swimmable sea, and ferries running well, with the worst of the peak-season crush behind you. This is the classic shoulder-season reward — beautiful weather without August's intensity. It's a great month for beaches, ferry trips to Positano and Capri, Ravello's gardens, and the Path of the Gods in slightly gentler heat. The lemon and grape harvest brings a seasonal buzz to the terraced groves. Rainfall ticks up a little (70mm) as early-autumn showers begin, and prices, while easing, are still high in the first half. By late September the air cools toward autumn. Pack summer clothes plus a light layer and an umbrella, and you'll catch the coast at a near-ideal balance of warmth and calm.
