Hoi An as base: 30min south of Da Nang, magical lantern-lit Old Town atmosphere, smaller boutique hotels (Allegro Hoi An, Anantara Hoi An), Cua Dai Beach (less developed but quieter), tailor shops, cooking classes. Hoi An has UNESCO atmosphere, Da Nang has modern amenities. Best: 2 nights Da Nang beach + 2 nights Hoi An Old Town = best of both. Many honeymooners pick Hoi An for romance + day trip to Da Nang Ba Na Hills.

Ba Na Hills is a French-built Disney-meets-Vietnam hilltop complex 40 min west of Da Nang. Cable car ride is world's longest single-cable (5.7km, 18 min, set 4 Guinness records). Up top: replica French village, Golden Bridge (the iconic giant stone hands holding bridge — opened 2018, became Vietnam icon, photo spot crowded — go before 11am or after 3pm), Gardens of Le Jardin, roller coaster, Wax Museum, Buddha statue.
