March in Valencia means Las Fallas — the city's huge, UNESCO-listed festival (March 15-19) — set against pleasant spring weather averaging 20°C/10°C with low rainfall (35mm). Las Fallas is the highlight of the Valencia calendar: hundreds of giant satirical papier-mâché sculptures (ninots) fill the streets, with daily ear-splitting mascletà pyrotechnic displays at 14:00 in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, fireworks, flower offerings, and processions. It climaxes with La Cremà on the night of March 19, when the sculptures are set ablaze across the city. Book accommodation 4-6 months ahead — hotels run 2-3x normal and sell out. Expect huge crowds, street closures, late nights, and noise (bring earplugs for the mascletà and watch for pickpockets). It's unforgettable but not a quiet sightseeing trip. Outside the festival dates, March is lovely spring weather for sightseeing with mild days. The sea is still cool (around 15°C) so it's not swimming season yet. Note: if you want calm sightseeing and low prices, avoid mid-March; if you want the spectacle, plan early.

May in Valencia is one of the best months of the year — warm, dry, and sunny, averaging 24°C/14°C with low rainfall (35mm) and 8 hours of sun a day. The weather is close to ideal: warm enough for the beach on a sunny afternoon, comfortable for all-day sightseeing, and not yet the peak heat of summer. Outdoor dining and the Turia Gardens are at their best. The sea begins to warm (around 19°C), so the hardy can start swimming and the beaches come alive, though full beach season is June onward. Malvarrosa and El Cabanyal are great for the promenade and beachfront paella. Crowds and prices are moderate — busier than the low season but well short of August. A superb shoulder-season window for those who want warmth without extremes. Note: late May can have the first genuinely hot days; otherwise it's reliably pleasant.

April in Valencia is warm, sunny spring — averaging 21°C/11°C with low rainfall (40mm) and 7 hours of sun a day. One of the best months for comfortable sightseeing. Mild, bright days make this ideal for walking the Old Town, cycling the Turia Gardens, and exploring the City of Arts without summer heat or Las Fallas crowds. Evenings are cool but pleasant. Easter (Semana Santa, dates vary by year) brings processions, and Valencia's seafront Marítim quarter has its own distinctive Holy Week traditions. Expect more visitors and slightly higher prices around the Easter week. The beach starts to feel inviting on warm afternoons, though the sea is still cool (around 16°C) for most swimmers — better for promenade walks and beachfront paella than swimming. A strong shoulder-season choice: great weather, fewer crowds than summer, and moderate prices outside Easter. Carry a light layer for the odd shower.
